OLD NEWS IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

~We have been working A LOT on growth mindset thinking and talking... here are some good talking points for home!

10 questions to help children develop a growth mindset:

~Word wall at home-I love the idea of making a word wall at home!! The goal is for all high frequency words/sight words can be read and spelled by the end of the year. With that being said, the word wall is to be used as a resource. Since most words in the wall are not "rule followers" and therefore cannot be sounded out, we do want to use the wall as a resource to help us spell and/or check our spelling. At this time students are encouraged to use the word wall to help them and check their work. These words can be find in each weekly newsletter and are also on the list I passed out at Back to School Night.

~Weekend Work: Throughout the week we have work that we start and sometimes do not get finished in an allotted time. When this happens it gets put in the blue work folder in the student’s desk. Throughout each day students have opportunities to work on items in their blue work folders. This week we have really been working on Habit 2- Begin with the End. Our goal was for all of our work to be complete by the end of this week. And for those who had work that wasn’t finished the plan was for it to be completed over the weekend. We will continue to work on time management in the classroom and I am sure this will not be a weekly event of needing to bring work home. If your child brought home weekend work last  Friday please know we are working hard to make it a goal that this week there will not be any work to bring home on Friday!

~Just a reminder that Top Secret folders were due Friday, September 15th ! I do not want to pass them out until each student has one. Let me know if you have any questions.

OLD NEWS IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

If you would like to send headphones/earbuds with your child to use/keep at school please send them marked with his/her name. This is completely optional, as we have plenty in our room we can share.

~I am enjoying reading the information I have received so far from the Parent Input Form I sent out last week. If you have not had a chance to fill it out, please do so at your earliest convenienceGetting to Know your First Grader

~ Gonoodle has such a wonderful assortment of brain breaks. You can even try it out at home! GoNoodle Info

~As we are getting into a routine in Room 9 and getting to know each other better, I continue to remind students they can come to me with anything! Questions, concerns, stories, worries, etc. I know sometimes it is easier for them to tell us what they think we want to hear. With time, I hope to establish deep, trusting relationships with all students so they know they can come to me with anything. Please feel free to follow up with this at home as well. Never hesitate to let me know if there is something I can do on my end to help your child continue to grow and learn!

*Students will learn about accessing Epic in class through our class Canvas page this week. I you would like to learn more about access from home, read below:
